Veere

Veere

Welcome in Veere! Veere is an historic town situated on the Zeeland island of Walcheren. Built around a beautiful harbour, the city boasts a rich history and culture dating back to the Middle Ages. With its beautiful nature and history, Veere is a popular destination for tourists. And with good reason!

Veere Harbour

One of the main attractions Veere has to offer is its historic harbour. Surrounded by beautiful old houses and buildings, the harbour is the beating heart of the city. Fun activity: there are many boat tours available from the harbour, including a trip to the Oosterschelde or a city tour. The harbour is also home to many restaurants and cafés, where you can enjoy local culinary delights. Restaurant De Werf is a great example of a restaurant where you can eat delicious food while enjoying lovely views of the harbour. Jachtclub Veere may not be well known among tourists, but it comes highly recommended! At the eatery, you can enjoy fresh seafood and a convivial atmosphere.

The history of Veere

A trip to Veere is not complete without a visit to the town hall. Built in the 16th century, this is one of the most impressive buildings in the city. The town hall welcomes visitors and offers a unique sneak peek into Veere's history and architecture. You can also learn a lot about Veere's history in the many museums, galleries, expositions and exhibitions. One example is Museum Veere, which showcases Veere as an important trading town in the 16th and 17th centuries. Several of the town's churches are well worth a visit, such as the Sint-Nicolaaskerk. Veere hosts an historic market every Tuesday during July, August and September. Learn more about Veere's history as you stroll around this lovely market. Some stall owners wear historic costumes that will really make you feel like you are stepping back in time.

Veere city walk

Veere is surrounded by stunning nature! You will find many hiking and cycling trails in and around the town, where you can enjoy typical Zeeland flora and fauna. Even more fun: there are many bird- watching huts in the area, where you can spot many bird species if you have a keen eye. For those visiting Veere with little ones, the town offers a fun scavenger hunt. Complete the various tasks as you enjoy a wander through Veere. The scavenger hunt takes about 45 minutes and is really worth it! At the end of the scavenger hunt, children will adore their reward: a visit to Oma's Snoepwinkeltje (Grandma's Sweet Shop). This sweet shop is a real treat for lovers of all things sweet. Though small in size, Oma's Snoepwinkeltje has over 100 kinds of old-fashioned sweets on sale, so it is definitely worth a visit!

Dining in Veere

There is always something going on in Veere: it is a great city for cultural events. The town hosts many festivals and events, such as the PopMonument music festival and various art exhibitions. Feeling hungry? Veere is home to many restaurants, where you can enjoy local culinary delights and specialities. We warmly recommend restaurant 't Waepen van Veere, where you can order delicious dishes of fish or meat. We suggest carefully studying the chef's menu, the composition of dishes is difficult to resist! While away the hours on the terrace of Restaurant 1611, with stunning views of the harbour. On sunny days, be sure not to miss the delicious Italian ice cream at Capello Giallo IJssalon. You will be spoilt for choice; all the flavours are equally delicious!
